The Festival's guest speaker, USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan, challenged America's regional Departments of Agriculture to grow gardens at their own headquarters sites. She cited container gardening as an organic solution to making healthier food choices.

TGC is a people-driven project of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, developed to realize innovative, sustainable solutions to hunger, malnutrition, and poverty worldwide.

Greetings!

Our apologies, but the May/June issue of By the Box contained factual errors we're writing to correct. Despite a statement to the contrary in our article about the People's Garden in Washington, D.C., EarthBoxes themselves are not OMRI-certified. What we should have said was that the EarthBoxes were planted using materials that are OMRI-certified for organic growing. The product that is OMRI-listed under EarthBox's parent company, Laminations, is The Natural Dolomite. Listed under Lambert Peat Moss and EarthBox is Jeff's Natural Solution's Organic Potting Mix. And under Perfectly Natural Solutions, 5-6-6 Organic Fertilizer. Our thanks to the subscriber who pointed out our inadvertent error.

Furthermore, we should have titled the email in such a way as to make it clear that The Growing Connection planted the EarthBoxes as part of the People's Garden.

The article is reprinted to the left, with the corrected statement in bold print. We apologize for any confusion.

Enjoy your summer, and happy gardening!
